What is going well (amazing) in your life?
I'd have to say that what's doing the best in my life right now is my relationships - whether they be family, friends, romantic... even my relationship with myself has been going really well. I might be exaggerating here, but from what I hear from many 20-somethings’, life gets pretty real, pretty quickly and it's easy to let self-doubt get the best of you. I've definitely experienced this over the last couple years and what has helped me get through it is cultivating great relationships with the people who matter most to me. I think the world of my friends and family and I'm so lucky to have them. I was also able to get myself into a mental state where I could date again and I'm now in the best romantic relationship I could ask for. Most importantly through this, I've been learning how to trust myself and let things go a little more. I'm very happy with my progress on that! 😊
What is a little confusing in your life right now?
My current financial situation is not going as well as I'd like it to be. The last two years have been transitional years where I've been trying to decide what I want my next steps to be and as a result, I've been stuck in a low-paying job. It pays the bills for now and does come with some great perks to help lower my spending, but I have expenses coming up in the future, such as long trips with friends and more schooling. It's scary to think that the numbers in my bank account won't be what I'd like them to be once I'm done with all of that. Money is hard. BUT I am taking some initiative finally and learning about budgeting and investing and all that jazz. I'm hoping to gain more financial literacy this year!
What are you currently doing (job/hobbies)?
Right now, I'm working two jobs. The first one is at a gym on UofT campus doing mostly front desk reception work and a bit of strength and fitness supervising as well. The other job is a city rep position with Bumble, here in Toronto. 😊Bumble has helped me expand my network, learn new skills related to marketing, and allow me to feel reassured making moves. My main hobby right now is dance! I've been dancing since the age of 7 - started off in ballet and slowly added more styles such as jazz, tap, modern, and contemporary. For the past year, I've been training in heels with Army of Sass Toronto and have been absolutely LOVING it!
How do you deal with the hard parts of life?
I've learned to not rely solely on myself and that it's okay to ask for help. I tend to pride myself on being independent and not needing help, but that usually leads to the situation snowballing into something much worse than it originally was. This is how I first started cultivating my relationships, by being open and honest with what exactly was going on and having people to lean on when things got too difficult. I have to remind myself to relax a lot too. I've started to build mainstream self-care actions into my routine such as face masks and scented candles because I'm such a sucker for them and they make me feel so good. Other not so mainstream self-care actions include a lot of basic necessities such as grocery shopping and meal prep. I am by no means a chef and cooking is not my favourite activity, but being able to say that I cooked my own meal gives me more confidence to go about handling the rest of life.
