Meet Dayma. He’s got a pretty cool and unique job! He works as a sales rep at Colliers international, in the real estate industry. After being in this industry, he decided to create an awesome podcast. He’s a go getter, hard worker, and very relatable. Check out our interview with Dayma to learn more…
1) What does a typical day in your role at Colliers International look like?
The short answer is running around like a chicken with its head cut off...
It's an extremely entrepreneurial job - so every single day is different. I typically get in to the office at 7:30, get my day organized, cold call prospective commercial real estate owners for 4 hours, jet off to a meeting or two in any corner of the city - from a ritzy loft in Yorkville to a 350 unit low income housing project in Regent Park - and meet with clients. At the end of the day, I'm back in the office preparing presentations and solving problems that I could't get to during the day.
Somewhere in there, my friends and I run a podcast.
2) Why did you decide to start CRE Library?
In commercial real estate, there's a lot of ego; it's an old industry. I think that sometimes prevents people from asking the questions that they want answered. I created the Commercial Real Estate Library to voice those unanswered questions, learn from the smartest people in the industry, and to create a dialogue around the current state of the market.
3) What is going well/exciting in work/life for you right now (aka making you amazed) ?
There's no ceiling in what I do. Limitless opportunity gets me pumped! My girlfriend and my dog also make me very happy.
4) What is the biggest challenge you are facing right now (aka making you confused)?
I've been trying Tim Ferris's slow carb diet, but I love double layered popcorn at the movies. I mean what can you do?
5) What is your number one tip for being successful in the commercial real estate business? What do you love about being in this industry?
I've got two. Work your ass off, and remember that how the generation before us got to the top will be very different than how our generation gets to the top.
More than anything I love the people.
