How the heck am I supposed to do my 9-5 job, manage 3 side hustles, be a good friend, sister, and daughter, all while trying to stay healthy?!
If you find the answer, do let me know lol...
But in all seriousness, if you’re like most young adults I know, you’ve got A LOT on your plate. And well, that can be both amazing and confusing.
I want to share what helps me when “all the things” get to be a bit overwhelming.
Create Morning and Evening Routines
This is EVERYTHING!! Developing a better routine was actually one of my 2018 new year's resolutions, so it’s AMAZING to see how far I’ve come. What’s CONFUSING is when I realized how hard developing this actually was. I STILL miss days. What i’ve realized though, is that the days I miss my routine are always the biggest struggles. Of course, different routines work for different people, but here is what I aim to do every morning and night, in order to set me up for success:
Wake up at 6:30 am
Wash face, brush teeth, express gratitude
7am head to the gym, yoga or workout class
Morning warm lemon water
Listen to a podcast as I get ready
Write out my power list along with work/personal to do lists
Meditate ~ 10 mins
Read ~ 1 chapter
Set priorities and boundaries
I’ve found that journalling is the best way to help me understand what my priorities are. Rachel Hollis has an AMAZING process laid out in her start today journal, which inspired my own process. If you’re like me, you’re keen to take on multiple things. Writing out your daily thoughts and feelings will help you understand which one of these things are a priority to you, and what you may need to let go of in order to make room elsewhere.
Schedule in “Me Time” and time to connect with those close to you
In all of life’s craziness it’s important you have some time for you, as well as friends and family. This may sound strange to some of you, but i’ve noticed if I don’t schedule this in, i’ll end up missing it. Therefore, I plan for things such as days i’ll see my boyfriend or have dinner with a friend.
There’s no point of working all the time if we can’t enjoy ourselves too! Of course, the goal is to love what we do. BUT if you’re still working on that, and even if you do-it’s still work. Therefore, find some time to PLAY! What does play look like for you? Of course it’s different from when we were kids, but it might look like a dance class like it does for me, or painting, or learning a new instrument.
In summary, life is full of amazing and confusing moments, and life is busy. I’ve found the best ways to navigate this crazy thing called life, is to develop routines that allow me to stay on top of it all, use my calendar like it’s my job (even for the fun things), and make sure i’m having FUN through it all!!
